Yesterday, I led a Westminster Hall debate on the sexual harassment of surgeons, medical professionals and others in clinical settings.
This follows on from my PMQ earlier in the Spring, which raised this serious issue directly with the Prime Minister.
The surveys carried out by the BMA, the GMC, and the FOIs used by the Women’s Rights Network, found that almost a third of female surgeons report having been sexually assaulted by a colleague, and two thirds have been the target of sexual harassment.
These are shocking statistics. This is part of a larger epidemic of violence against women and I hope the Government is serious about following the recommendations and working with those expert bodies who carried out the research so we can put a stop to these incidents.
