Earlier this week I met with East Kent Hospitals Chief Executive, Tracey Fletcher, to discuss the many issues the Trust is currently facing.
We talked about improvements now being made to our maternity services in both QEQM in Margate, and William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, following last year’s damning Kirkup report into the serious failings that led to dozens of baby deaths.
Ms Fletcher talked about improvement plan that is being implemented and detailed the work that is now being done across the Trust to urgently support these services and to rebuild trust and respect among staff and patients.
We also discussed stroke provision, serious ongoing recruitment problems in the care sector and many other points raised by constituents. I was also pleased to learn that the Trust is working alongside Canterbury Christ Church University to support midwifery students after the future of their course was thrown in doubt.
